A CRITICAL APPROACH BY THE THURSDAY THINKERS TO "THE GIVING TREE"

WE ARE LEARNING TO DISAGREE CHEERFULLY...

Today, we got together to exercise on agreeing and disagreeing...

What could be a better book for controversy then "one of the most divisive books in children's literature"; THE GIVING TREE?

(Here is a link, if you too want to listen to the story of the Giving Tree)

After reading The Giving Tree, we discussed whether the relationship between the boy and the apple tree in the book was a positive one.

It is probably a good thing that our members don't believe in "selfless" love but they still have a really fair and kind perspective on friendship.  They were not very happy about the apple tree giving up even her own body just to give her friend what he wanted. However, they pretty much agreed that giving others made them feel good and they didn't even expect anything in return.

Isn't this thought alone worth celebrating??

And so we did...

HASTA LA VISTA...

HELLO! WE ARE BACK AGAIN...

We are back at our club after a little snow break celebrating the start of the new year...

We have had a guest and a new member at this first meeting of the year...   Our guest Ece Abla was with us to join in our fun and games. She promised she will be back with some fun science experiments next time she visits our club.

Today we welcome our good friend Flora Piskinsut as a new member. Flora too promised to think positively and to share ideas, games, books, films and talents with us.

While enjoying some fruits and cookies, we talked about our new book called the "IMPORTANT BOOK" by Margaret Wise Brown.

THE IMPORTANT THING ABOUT YOU IS YOU

After listening to the Important Book, we asked everyone the same question: "what is the important thing about you?" Here are the answers by our members in their own words:

Gulizi: Cok mutlu ve enerjik olmak.
Derin: En sevdigim yemegi her zaman yiyebiliyor olmak ve her zaman oynamayi sevmek.
Ayse: Dusunceli olmak ve tum oyunlari sevmek.
Irmak: Iyi kalpli ve duyarli olmak.
Emma: Surekli gulumsemek.
Flora: Komik olmak.
Mavi: Oyun oynamayi sevmek.
We also shared our views on each other and said what was the important thing about each of our friends. We heard some really good comments and feedback from our friends.

As always, we did not let the day go without playing our favorite games:

Hope to see you all next week...

ADIOS:)
